"Crypographic Romances"

Cryptography is the way to convey mystical information. The artist chose this title for her exhibition, since the leading ingredient of her work is the symbolic information contained therein. Inspired by the Renaissance and Baroque influence of Occultism and Symbolism, she uses in her paintings elements-symbols from the iconography found in the Renaissance and in the Arts of the Far East.
Her works consist of compositions depicting female figures, sometimes stand-alone, sometimes in clusters of two or more, in which the erotic element prevails. The simple forms, with emphasis on sleek dark contours and almost single-coloured bodies, take distinguishing continuous, sometimes curvilinear body postures, that create the sense of a constant flowing motion. Another characteristic are the gestures of the proportionally oversized limbs -a distinct, emphatical symbolism of the artist's works.
Passion stems out of the themes of her work. At times arises an underlying, intimate violence through symbols–shapes or by means of gestures of the predominantly feminine figures of the artist's work, which are existing elements of life.
The technique of encaustic, which is used on the wooden background of her works, as well as the color rules of hagiography, are a catalyst when it comes to the artist's elaborated style.
The wax is used as raw material: besides its symbolic status and the unique hue and brightness of the colours, it stands out of the gray that surrounds our daily lives and is more than need. The colours are waves breaking the fear in the perspective of love.
Born and raised in Athens, in the years of an avalanche of needed information, Orestia borrows and uses in her paintings elements of the Art of the West, such as Pop - Art, Graffiti, psychedelic posters as well as Comics. She also turns to the East: her aesthetically atmospheric allusive works are a bridge between the old and the new, which can be read in the light of Contemporary Art and thought.

“Distant landscapes”

Eri Sourouni's new exhibition consists of three-dimensional structures in the form of light boxes, which draw inspiration from the art of Shadow Theater and the Japanese pictorial tradition.The materials used are simple and natural: wood, cloth and paper, with light coming from behind.  Delicate nuances of the landscape are accentuated by means of three-dimensional games of light and shadows. Seascapes emerge from a blurrness. Close ups are depicted between trunks and trees' branches. Intense misty landscapes depict the clouds' movement. Mountains show the way to the sea. Natural phenomena such as hurricane, mist or light emerge from the depth of the horizon. All these iconographic elements are the source of inspiration for the artist who brings in line feeling and sensations.
Both the color gamut of projects is coupled with a designy performance of morphoplastic elements. Sheer simplicity and the bare essential coexist in harmony.
These contemporary art constructions have a painting added-value consistent with their traditions, further adding new style and character.
According to the artist, in this artistic game, one can find harmonic elements that exist in nature. Such harmony could also potentially be achieved as a parameter in societal relations as well.
