Day drives away the Night

In his new work, Faidon Patrikalakis evolving the primitive style and the already genuine characteristics of his Art, towards a world of Fantasy and Mythological scenes with a scent of surrealistic features, he visualizes a whole new world, where Light and Color, ( the ‘Day’ as he nominates it ) will dominate against the world of Shadows and Night. Day and Night, Light and Darkness, are symbols in the artist’s work, for the problems and the solutions of subjects that torment man in contemporary life.
Talking about this new work of him, Patrikalakis says: “ Each of the works in this new exhibition has been invented by the previous one, creating a chain and a common path , towards an artistic vision of an indecomposable whole with interdependencies and consequences. Hypnotized figures, in a dreamy atmosphere, surrounded by birds and colorful roses, go around with figures sitting or standing, thinking of the beginning that comes to an end or of the end bringing them to a new rise, in an unexpected and irrevocable way. Some of my syntheses revive the fairy-tales’ world, with acrobats and balancers, that has fascinated me in my childhood. In others, I have drawn figures contemplating about everyday life, or others solitarily penting in their loneliness, aiming to conserve a more substantial unity with the natural environment, in contradistinction with the betrayal and indefinability of human relationships. Some of my figures and forms conserve only their schematic ideation, whereas the rest of their characteristics are deducted and filled in instead, with letters and numbers, symbols for knowledge of all  eras.
The title of this new work: « Day drives away the Night », expresses the message. Darkness disarms us, drives us to mysterious paths, often disastrous and takes away all our energy and hope. It is the kingdom of shadows, the place were anxiousness flares up. Until the day and the light come. As we turn away from frightening nightmares and we fight against obscureness, visible or imperceptible stalemates, we bring back beneficial wakefulness of Fantasy and Colours. “

Exhibitions’ duration:  until Saturday, 23 June 2012
