The new work by Tounta consists in a series of metal sculptures that depict plants, fruit and parasites. The powerful forms, in bright colours, are provocative and yet attractive to the visitors. They look like fossils of a bygone era, nevertheless bearing the freshness and intensity of our time.
The Professor and art historian Manos Stefanidis says about Tounta's new work:
"... Sofia creates metal flowers, not by cruelty but by tenderness. She produces them this way to make them resistant and protected from the pervasive violence of this city that is slowly dying. She then baptises them in the colour of fire to exorcise the evil, to bring back the colour of volcanoes in a city accustomed to grayness and black ashes.
Think...
Sofia makes sculpture with color, metal, solder with oxygen and genuine emotion. She seeds fruit of iron that will survive an impending disaster. They will survive the even greater violence that awaits us, which is there since we did not embrace emotion in our lives, since we do not pay attention to the melancholy of the statues in the streets ... ".
