“ Μoving in a dream.. ”
« Painting, such as poetic creation, relates to something deeper in the human nature, like a vision, a feeling, our attitude towards the world. When we dream, we create and perceive the world at the same time. The same applies at time of artistic creation”.
The thematic of this series of works involves the duration of a work’s creation and my relationship with time while I am painting.
The ‘meaning’ of time at the process of creation up until the completion of each and every work of art is something that just occurred –I did not look for it.
It is, however, an important part of my work, because of the inner existence of time in the painting procedure, which I live as a time telling, during which every painting dot, every small line, every brushstroke measure the time needed to be produced, the thinking, the doubts, the decision and its execution.
Naturally, the process of putting in form during painting is mostly unconscious. What is conscious is the part of processing that reflects the feeling of all I want to achieve, even if all I created ends up to be more or less different of what I first pictured in my imagination.
Τhe outset for the theme, the style and the sensation I wanted to give to this work of mine derives from my love for Hokusai’s work.
I wanted to create paintings that give the feeling of calmness. The same feeling I have when I come across a sunset at the see, the dawn of the sun or a calm, cloudy sky. Like the poet Pessoa said: “I am a sailor in the unknown sees of myself...»
Εvrydiki Kallimahou (January 2012)
In her new series of works , entitled: “Moving in a dream.. ”, Evrydiki Kalimachou continues to thrive upon her abstract line of work, emphasizing the aesthetics, the poetry, the dream that derive from the process and the painting work itself.

“ Double Reflections ”
In his exhibition entitled: ‘ Double Reflections ’, Antonis Papadopoulos presents a series of paintings and sketches, which belong to the broader movements of New Surrealism and Represantation Libre.
In his second solo exhibition in “Astrolavos-dexameni ” gallery, the artist is presenting works, in which the synthesis’ center is dominated by a rectangular frame, which opens as a window on to another dimension, thus revealing a second picture.
The works’ double pictures narrate and provoke intense impressions, in their unexpected crossing. They create spaces and suggest ambiguous situations, they depict a world “..in between”. Levitating between reality and fantasy in a metaphysical alienation, they balance between the paradox and the unfamiliar, combining poetry with clarity and accuracy of representation, mystery with symbolic references, which are hermetic and, at times, enigmatic.
The exhibition comprises 2 different sections of the artists’ works. The first one, occurs to works black and white, with a more savage, expressionistic background, painted with charcoal and oil pastels, and with a small hint of color in details – these are sketches on paper. The second part of artist’s works, is the section of canvas’ paintings, which are painted with acrylic colors and they are characteristic for their vivid bright, sometimes striking, colors and emphasize more in the surrealistic painting techniques. |
