The exhibition ''Real Time'' is an individual exhibition by the photographer Yiannis Konstantinou under the line of this year Athens Photo Festival. The exhibition includes photographs solely created by multimedia (in a pc) depicting minimal and virtual sceneries.
These are images on which the viewer can see the duality of sky- sea in an ultra illusionist way. Oneiric sceneries, soulful, that seem real even if there are not. Places where everyone would like to travel to.
The photographs are presented into 2formats; the two ways the artist presents his opinion about the geometric cut of image-scenery. The first format is totally square, whereas the second one is wide-angled.
Real- Surreal: The Perfect Doubt
Photography nowadays is not only about documentary and realistic images but is moving towards an era of hybrid, digital patterns.
The globalization, the abundance of images that surrounds us and the over-flow of information lead to an added experience of virtual reality
Jean Baudrillard has pin pointed: ''. deeply altered via the situation of reality''. He claims that as a result of media and informatics domination, reality itself tends with uncertainty towards surrealism, to a meticulous reproduction of real, thoroughly operating inside the simulation space.
With the use of the computer begins the exploration of a place (site) or a non-place (non-site) leading to the quest of reality's ghost, the realistic illusion, rising questions of identity.
Surrealistic images created with the help of a generator of realistic scenery represent a virtual reality which seems more real than reality itself.
As Baudrillard mentions, a more exact way of describing this representation is through simulacrum:''.the creation with real world models without the original prototypes is the super real''.
The 360 degrees panoramic photographs (125 x 16 cm) become an enigma for the spectator and placing mechanisms of truth request into action.
In this exhibition the photographs that are presented are virtual scenery images (sky-sea) entirely created in a computer.
The sceneries are created in 2 formats the wide-angled, horizontal format and a square one.
Both of these formats have been chosen as a statement in geometry, a cutting format- for the presentation of the virtual scenery by its creator.
