  Astrolavos artlife 24.09.09 - 15.10.09

On Thursday, 24th of May 2009, in the art space ''Astrolavos artlife''  (Irodotou 11, Kolonaki, tel: 210 7221200, 4, fax: 210 7221304, opening hours: Mon-Wed-Sat: 11.00-15.00, Tu-Th-Fr: 11.00-20.30, www.astrolavos.gr, gallery@astrolavos.gr) opens Poly Kanistras'  new, individual exhibition with papier-mache artifacts, entitled: ''Rendez-vous on Sunday''.

In this new unit of work the artist, using paper as her main material, attributes a harsh appearance making the surface of the papier- mache bring out the earth-like texture of clay. The artist continues to create figures of stylistic simplicity artistically following basic lines, the shape of scarecrows yet at the same time her thematic axis with experimental memories and situations.
The Sunday date is on Piraeus. Under the big clock in Pasalimani, the usual stroll ''Turkolimano - Pasalimani - Freattida'' or a few meters away the central Piraeus Port, reminding us holidays on islands and next to it the Railway Station and the walks outside the city. Strolling around squares, children watching ''karagkiozi'' and visiting the fun park, or just going for family lunches and nights being entertained.
Although slowly everything changes, the strolls continue the window-shopping or enjoying sweets from local sellers. Always, the classic Sunday derby at Karaiskaki Stadium where fans of the two eternal opponents Olympiakos and Panathinaikos, squeeze one next to another in a red-green maypole providing the pulse, the liveliness and the movement of past eras.
This artistic expression tries and achieves in featuring the happy-melancholic appearance and feeling of these past times, long gone and very nostalgic for those born then.
Nostalgia becomes perhaps even more melancholic, as the artist dresses her lady figures with colorful, bright, stripy colors and ornaments, flamboyant hats, glasses and broaches; top-hats and playful ties for her male figures.  Scarves flying in the wind behind bicycles, crowed children on old-fashioned, colorful balconies, boats of all shapes and sizes cramped upon a tiny piece of moon-shaped piece of wood, brought by the sea; at the same time the chess-board with red and green footballers as pones, create a colorful universe, fairytale like. In front of us a vibrant world, a lively world both humane and oneiric. See you Sunday then.

Duration of exhibition: until the 15th of October 2009.
