On Wednesday the 15th of February, in the art space of
ŤASTROLAVOS dexameni, opens an individual exhibition by
Stathis Stavropoulos.
The artist is mostly known in the broader audience by his
collaboration with newspapers and magazines in the field
of caricature. This is the artist's forth personal exhibition
within a gallery space, where he exhibits some of his works
from the past five years.
Sketches drawn on paper with ink, colored marker pens, watercolors
or acrylic paint are impregnated by a unique notion of sensitivity,
in a theoretical and technical level.
A delicate, transparent texture which is being distinguished
by the stroke of the brush and the coloring of the painting
in combination with the romantic character some of the figures
have acquired and the space which surrounds them, lends
the artwork the feeling of innocence and childhood age.
The reason is obvious. The works which have been drawn for
the illustration of fairytales as well as the pictorial
attribution of the lyrics of songs and poems, are all works
which respond to a process directly connecting the sensitivity
of speech or text with the artistic sensitivities of their
designer.
Isolated female figures surrounded/ entrapped within cities
with eyes, mythological goddesses in seaside sceneries,
colourful human forms in medieval and renaissance buildings;
are few of the many topics which, in a dominant, surrealistic
way of approach, refer in alien universes and different
epochs of history. The exhibition will also include caricatures
in the usual sharp humour and unique personal style of the
designer.
