The aesthetics of comics, pop art and publicity at a technique
level and the marketable or for wide consumption eroticism,
as well as the lifestyle models of every kind, presented
by the media (TV, cinema, press) and the "must"
that try to impose on modern man, constitute the two main
axis of Stavros Pehlivanidis works, that will be presented
at his exhibition, at the art shop of ASTROLAVOS artlife
Art Gallery (11 Irodotou str, Kolonaki, tel: 210 7221200,
4, fax: 210 7221304, www.astrolavos.gr, opening hours: Monday,
Wednesday, Saturday: 11.00-15.00, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday:
11.00-20.30) on Tuesday the 14th of June 2005 from 8 until
10.30 in the evening.
Digitally elaborated images with computer graphics, creating
unique, sharp, colored surfaces presented through the light
box's luminous screen, compose a postmodern version and
a compromise between giant or cinema poster and neon signs.
Main request of the artist is to impress. In a pictorial
level, this is achieved through appropriate combinations,
light and color choices and the design of the protagonists'
morphological forms in his creations.
Feminine models of intense sexuality, femmes fatales with
promising look and mysterious smile, as well as dynamic,
full of masculinity men constitute the usual couples of
the creations. Feminine figures are often portrayed completely
frontal, looking directly at the viewer, in a way that creates
one more game of charm and fascination at a second level.
At a first level the emotional exaltations seem quite eloquent,
as well as the often one-sided erotic desire prevailing
in the majority of the meeting, separation or contact scenes
between men and women. Electrified atmosphere in his love-content
works, but more..."cool" scenes too, that show
the habits and the day life of the young modern townees,
reflect from one hand intense eroticism, referring to the
atmosphere of contemporary French cinema, and from the other
hand a superficially sarcastic or ironic look of the artist
himself on what is modern and what is considered to be "in".
Most of the creations contain a hidden need for tenderness
and simplicity presented at a visual level through a sensitive
chromatic range of finest tonal scales used by the artist
for the surrounding of the figures. Blue, azure colors in
cool tones in combination with small surfaces of intense
warm colors create an intense atmosphere in the room scenes.
On the contrary, in the works that depict noisy groups of
young people enjoying themselves, the background color is
more neutral, giving emphasis in grey tones. In all the
creations, without exception, the luminous idea of the light
box makes the artist's palette more impressive and bright.
These bright light boxes, with the contemporary ordinary
heroes can be interpreted in many different ways, depending
on the background and the approach of each viewer.
Duration of the exhibition: till 2nd of July.
