Human forms, women and men bodies in positions often complicated
in fall back or rotation, constitute the basic patterns
of paintings and sculptures of the Dutch artist Henk van
Boekel, that will be exposed from 19th to 23rd of April
2005 in his solo exhibition in Art Gallery ASTROLAVOS dexameni
The human forms dominate in artist paintings in two levels
- bodily and intellectual. Their corporeity is expressed
through compact volumes of the monumental dimensions of
bodies and even if they are not distinguished from flaccidity
they are particularly plethoric. The dimensions and the
analogies of the members of bodies are rather attributed
by the artist in a subjective way. Despite however their
not realistic output, the forms maintain a direct and familiar
relation with the spectator. In their faces, the disposal
of inwardness and meditation and the evident search of tenderness
cooperate with each other and also with the spectator. The
members, that appeared particularly, embrace the body, which
in design level is attributed in the type of a ball. Attitudes
closed in their majority create curvilinear forms with intensively
plastic character. The children’s naivety is erased evidently
so much in the naif characteristic of faces, as much as
in soft volumes of their bodies that are mixed crossed between
them.
Forms intensely expressive, full of life, elect humans love
for himself, his fellowman and the world that surrounds
him. The positive breeze that they exude submits the sentiment
of creatively encouraged survival of the person that has
managed to find his balance and has captured the meaning
of life. The style of artist, even if at first sight is
simple, includes an intellectual background. His oil or
coal paintings and also his sculptures of bronze or clay
elect the exceptional metie of the artist who is an excellent
holder of his means and without being focused in the demonstration
of technique he lends one authentic and peculiar poetic
identity in his work.
Evening of opening at 9 the Historian and Critic of Art
Athina Shina will present the book – artistic monograph
of Henk Van Boekel.
