On Tuesday the 21st of September opens at the middle level
of the art gallery ASTROLAVOS dexameni an exhibition of
photography by the artist Andriana Meyer.
Andriana Meyer presents two photo essays Contagion and Ruins
of the Future.
Contagion is a photographic register of a bigger project
being developed in Argentina with the Ashiro group, founded
by her and Tomas Ochoa in 2001. In this project they raise
contemporary conflicts: The dessert as a metaphor of the
city, where the sense of reality is distorted more than
ever; the sensation of emptiness that a contemporary individual
has when he/she aimlessly drifts in the overwhelmed urban
centers. The existential loss, when reality, which is highly
invaded by media, becomes meaningless. And more hidden clues
of the urban context can be found within this photo essay.
In Ruins of the Future several industrial spaces are shown
as records of an organism in decadence. Nevertheless there
is an aesthetic approach to the processes, which this organisms
have gone trough. The medical instruments - taken from old
encyclopedias - which complement the empty spaces, allude
to the human body as correlative to the ruins - organism.
The human absence is emphasized in order to connect these
images with the viewer under this perspective of absence.
The exhibition takes part to the 11th International Month
of Photography, Athens 2004.
Duration until: 14th of October.
