Madalena Angeletou: "De loin .." - Painting Exhibition

De loin .. / From Far Away

The artist approaching concepts like: Home - Self - Familiar - Distant - Travel - Memory, through images-symbols which illustrate a predominantly emotional journey. A path traversed by her or, even, by each of us, in the depth of space and time. A path without cliches, with absolute freedom of expression and interpretation. With a touch of expressionism and emotional tenderness at the same time, she speaks, at times in a minimalistic way, at times in a rather descriptive way, focusing on the basic colors and their different shades. She speaks of the people surrounding her and of the state of reality and her state of mind.
"My dress. My hair. I was always the same. Ready for a journey. I do not know. I would try. The loss seemed probable. An answer without a question. How do you see things from above? I walked in your shoes without realising it. I adopted your figure. I want to fly with you. We were hugging. I was holding on to a green thin rope. I was wrapped in your plait -a long, brown plait. I was a red balloon. When I laugh I felt like bursting..."

Evi Karagiannidis: "Camera in Wonderland" - Photographic exhibition (presented at the Athens Photo Festival 2010).

The photographic realism as well as - at times - the poetic images of the landscape itself or of the 'staged' landscape create visual statements which guide the audience on a journey of question marks. Does the artist, by means of her photographic lens, reflect the history of the place or does she unfold a personal story before our eyes?

The photographer depicts - the same way a writer does - the relationship between the elements of the natural wealth of the country. She highlights the presence through the absence. She provides a sophisticated feast for our visual appetite so as to reveal the fairy tales within hidden aspects of everyday life. This way, she leads our memory from the knowledge of local history to the contemplation of nature, whilst reminding us of the relationship of humans with the world.

(The ensemble of 53 photographs of the "Cobh and Fota" portfolio was shot in the harbor Cobh and on the island Fota, in the district of Cork, Ireland. This project was realised in August 2008, during the residency of the photographer at "Sirius Art Centre").

The exhibitions will take place until Saturday, November 27th, 2010.
