In the middle gallery level Anna-Maria Papadimitriou exhibits her new work.
Basic axis a dream-like landscape, a surrealistic representation where color and attribution of light dominate in a new impressionistic style. After her participation in the exhibition: ''Contemporary artists of Abstraction'' 2007, the artist returns with ''Light Scapes'', showing works of large, medium and small size, oils on canvas and paper, traveling the viewer in the fantastic space-time of Art (painting) but also of life.
The artist herself claims: ''Early onwards, since the beginning of my studies when I had the model in front of me, I realized that I was more drawn to the colors and color variations created upon the palette I was holding. These varied colors seemed as they created ''roads untravelled'' highly provocative. They absorbed me. What interests and provokes me is to enter a confessionary space, move my boundaries, my walls, to ''open up''; energize the unconscious producing through associations different ways of interacting with the very existence.. memories of water, memories of sky. Open up. See moments of the future transformed into the present. So many images on hold. Numerous potential clearings.''.
The orientation is often invalidated. Light endures. Time is not evident. Absence there to confirm the presence of oneself, of one's thoughts. It is you and yourself. Still, this unfamiliar place is your most familiar home. You are proud for not putting up a roof or walls or for not building your home in a hurry.
The unfamiliar, as a wider - broader space stretches its ends towards every direction, gazing instantly at the truth. One moment is enough to convert it. To open it up, redefine it. This procedure is inevitable within Papadimitrious work. Her paintings are muddled, connected with the human body. Successional cover ups and ripples at times make the work ''heavy''. Like heavy baggage packed for a long trip.
''For this trip I was talking about. For a mountain you shall have to cross; yourself.'' |

During the same period of time at the lower gallery level, are presented the manufactures exhibition by Sofia Paraskevopoulou entitled: ''We were once children''.
In the work of Paraskevopoulou evident is the influence of comics and graffiti art creating her own pop images which then places in a dramatic world, dominated by black and white, only with few exceptions of brightness and vivid colors of red or sparkling glitters, green and mauve. |

An entire universe, almost like a fairytale, a contemporary gothic tale in which the heroes are children seeking a way out from the dark and gloomy metropolis they live in. This way out is to be found within their thriving fantasy world.Under the light of the pc or the television, the cartoons and the plastic toys create a story of their own, dreams of their own. Although melancholy escorts them hope co exists in their dreams.
Optimism evident in their eyes; their wide-open eyes restlessly seek the brightness of this or the other world. The woods of our fairytales used to be bright, now forests, trees, lakes, elves and fairies are somewhat darker. However, children, the grownups of tomorrow wish to build their houses and cities with colours; make life brighter.
Maybe dreams are no longer in the dark; yet, only for these children wishing to dream with eyes wide open.
Duration of exhibition: until Saturday 6th of March 2010
