Eleni Pavlopoulou , in this new individual exhibition, with the distinctive title: 'Immigrants of Love', negotiates conditions of body and soul during the long journey towards self-knowledge, towards love.

A journey towards Eros and the journey back. The body, as a point of reference, symbol of humanistic culture. The presentation of body expression; city, scenery, world, the bridging of materials with idealism and spirituality. The total emergence of the body and the ontology of the body. A constant opening to alterity. Body, as a symbol of sexual emancipation. Body as a symbol, object of collective memory.

Body of desire - security of life, in an ever-changing world, threatened, killing soul and body. The body, which is 'pulled down' by the punishment/privilege of the Original Sin.

The absence, the waiting, the joy and dedication; the unfulfilled, the exile, the affirmation. Emigration, a journey towards a different place, not necessarily real and the relinquishment of the known and already experienced cognitive field. There is a need to surpass these known limits and abandon these firm positions and practices, which imprison mind and body. Conceptually, the notion of immigration is the emersion from the stereotyped world to the unknown world of difference. This type of 'immigration' can also mean the return to the 'womb', in succession or parallel. Thus, the erotic element is the bases of social and spiritual power.

The artists' direct literature and poetic influences are traced in 'Mythologies, The Theory of Archetypes' by Karl Yung, 'Body, adjuration and threat', by Pepi Rigopoulou, as well as poetic collections by N. Karouzos and K. Dimoula.

During the same period of time, in the middle level of the gallery, Elpida Panonidou presents her new individual exhibition entitled: ' Microcosmos' . Three-dimensional manufactures, collages in space and wall-mounted works of mixed medium influenced by realistic representation and pop culture approach with humour and bittersweet sense, the childhood age. Art works on which no one can trace time or space, dominated by child images.

The artist via a mixture of pop orientated feeling and extra surrealistic artist freedom, takes the viewer into a dream like world of fantasy.

Three different routes of expression lead to same starting point, the inner scenery. In the beginning the three-dimensional collages- like a game of colors, shapes, dimensions, wall-mounted or on the floor, dominate the space. The volume and the levels create a totally embossed surface and collages that determine the image.

The viewer is asked to travel, at times on the occasion of a look on a child's/symbol face and other times because of some oneiric environment referring to an inner scenery. Ink prints on paper or in canvas, some on colored frames and some on white canvas are exhibited on the wall like group compositions. The thin ink line, defines the space and the volume thus unfolding a clear image, almost human centred. The scenery remains internal and the look on the figures faces is constant.

Concluding, the 3-dimensional element seeks its own space and as a result a small installation is manufactured- thematically connected with the works, creating the feeling that the works heroes have left their traces within the gallery space.

Duration of exhibition: until Saturday 15 of March 2008
