On Thursday 29 th of January in the Art Space of "Astrolavos artlife" (Herodotou 11, Kolonaki, opening hours: Mon.Wed.Sat. 11.00-15.00 and Tu.Thu.Fr. 11.00-20.30, tel: 210 7221304, www.astrolavos.gr ) opens a sculpture exhibition of Christina Douzeni, whith artifacts made out of inoxidizable steel, entitled: "Gods and Viewers".
In this unit of work the artist presents anastatic and full-body sculptures, in small or natural size proportions, with main thematographic axis the human form. Distributive or incorporated into more complicated, picturesque motives, mainly depicting mythological scenes and stories. Compositions which directly or indirectly refer to the work title themselves; furthermore, there figures can often represent sculptures of the classical Greek period or Roman architecture, attributed and approached in contemporary work. Inoxializable steel is a material with specific natural qualities, which gives to the artist the ability to transfer any design with accuracy, while at the same time the works - sculpture can be of large dimensions, without the weight and size of the traditional sculpture materials (marble, wood, glass). The cutting process with plasma machine and tig for welding and the final work with the wheel, creates robust and shinny material, the necessary shadowing, cuts, niches or ledges. The metallic matter seems human with burns and imperfections but also more interesting artistically, as the work acquires color variations and multi-leveling. These color reflections take on different shades, which the metallic plates get from the surrounding environment, depending on the time of the day and the way the work is exhibited.
The works titles: "Angelo", "Pecore", "Seduta", "Hermes", "Copia Autuno", "Biciclette", "Seduta Blu", transfer mainly psychological moods and tensions and less some sense of reality. Besides, the artist herself is interested in both the mythological thematography and the contemporary reshaping of the female form. She is also interested in the plastic perfection of the forms and their internal truth rather than a fictitious external reality. The artists' goal is to create works which offer a positive inner glow.
Duration of exhibition: until the 23 rd of February 2008.
