On Monday the 9th of May Paula Lakah will present at the
Art Gallery ASTROLAVOS dexameni (Xanthippou 11, Kolonaki,
tel: 210 7294342, 3, fax: 210 7293317, www.astrolavos.gr)
a performance entitled: "Inside-Out".
The basic axes of the performance are the following:
The woman-artist at the beginning is not visible to the
spectator. She is found in the interior of an oval construction
which she calls "an energetic egg". However her
presence becomes perceptible to outside from the light that
is emitted by the half-transparent wrapping of the egg and
which springs from a luminous cable that surrounds her body.
This luminous element refers to the communicative character
of a person and his need to contact with his environment
externalizing his internal world. So a dilemma is raised
and sometimes the double tendency of a person for isolation
and "closure" in a safe wrapping on the one hand
and for communication and "opening" to the outside
world on the other. At the same time there will be a musical
background of soft, rhythmical music that will give an intellectual,
surreal atmosphere to the performance. Her dancing kinesiology-way
in the first stage will be an accidental roaming at the
lowest level of the Art Gallery between the crowd. Then
she will go up the scale that leads to the intermediate
level, approaching an object from timber in phallic shape,
that will be stand there and which she has created herself.
The artist, that has being "revealed", as she
has taken off the egg wrapping - the process of this revelation
has the significance of genesis or metamorphosis - will
come in contact with this object, which is also transformed.
As a part of a live organism, the central axis of the object
goes up and down changing angles of gradient from horizontal
to vertical. The significance of this "game" between
woman - artist and this object is susceptible to different
readings and interpretations. The one that concerns the
bodily - sexual level is likely most unsophisticated, as
each person expresses his erotic-communicative tendency
for different objects, meanings or necessities. The white
color that dominates so much in her costume as much in the
color of polymorphic object refers to the lost innocence.
Paula Lakah, born in Egypt, has lived and has exhibited
in Germany and in Greece (4 solo exhibitions and performances).
Her performance will begin in 21.00 and the duration is
15 min.
Duration of exhibition: until 28th of May.
