On Tuesday the 25th of May, in the artshop of "Astrolavos
artlife" an exhibition of artistic constructions opens
under the title "Invisible Cities, Visible Playgrounds"
by Vasiliki Holeva .The reason for creating this kind of
work was Italo Kalvino's book "Invisible Cities".
Baltrada, Eutropia, Olinta, Ersilia and other utopian cities
acquire shape through constructions which seem to have the
purpose to urge the spectator to deal with his own desires
and fears.
These constructions are miniatures of the cities described
in Kalvino's texts, viewed through the eyes of the artist.
The cities are constructed in a way that conceals any hint
of pessimism or negativism by using an illusory, naive and
lightsome covering of colors, shapes, materials etc. The
sequence of the materials is inexistent (just like the sequence
of images in dreams), the colors are vivid and Game is present
everywhere.
Every city-playground invites in its own way the viewers-inhabitants
into their complicated and mysterious urban net through
a two-way game by using sounds, light and motion. Thus,
the viewer is given the opportunity to feel the spirit of
the cities as if he were an inhabitant.
The materials used by the artist are dexion, wood, fabric,
mirrors, plexi-glass, industrial material, paper, lenses,
colors etc while some of the cities are framed with electric
and sound installation.
The duration of the exhibition is until the 22nd of June
2004.
